Mikee Huber
Painting
Bio: Mikee Huber is a painter based in Dayton, Ohio, working through a process-driven approach that balances intuition, structure, and sustained attention. Her work moves fluidly between abstraction, gesture, geometry, and stylized landscape, evolving through layering, revision, and response to place.
Influenced by the natural and built environments, memory, and music — particularly disco, funk, and 1990s hip hop — her paintings explore rhythm, movement, and visual tension. She is interested in how patterns emerge, dissolve, and re-form over time, and how color and form can hold both energy and stillness within a single surface.
With formal training in fine art, commercial art, and photography, her practice blends technical skill with experimentation. Whether working from direct observation, reference, or memory, she allows each painting to develop slowly, guided by curiosity and careful decision-making. She regularly works in series, with each body of work serving as a sustained exploration of a distinct theme or idea.
Artist Statement: In my Connections series, I explore the intricate bonds that tie individuals and communities together. Through vibrant color fields and intersecting lines, viewers are invited on a journey of discovery, witnessing the beauty of human connection unfold.
Each line in my paintings represents a unique individual, and as they converge, they form a cohesive whole — a metaphor for the strength found in unity. Inspired by the rich diversity of urban life, I celebrate the blending of cultures and traditions that enrich our communities.
My art serves as a reminder of the transformative power of connection. By embracing diversity and fostering meaningful relationships, we can build stronger, more inclusive communities where every individual is valued and respected.
