Drawing, Printmaking, Painting
David Leach was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1946. He received a B.A. from Bucknell University, and an M.F.A. from Ohio University. He is an Emeritus Professor at Wright State University, having taught studio art there – primarily printmaking and drawing – from 1973 to 2003. He served as Chair of the Department of Art and Art History from 1985 to 1989. David has been a member of the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative for over 25 years. His drawings and prints have been published in conjunction with poetry and prose on numerous occasions, including Wanderers and Other Poems by Gary Pacernick (Prasada Press, 1985.) His work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, the Beinicke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University, the Dayton Art Institute and the Cincinnati Museum of Art, among several other public and private collections.
Over the past several years my work has developed around the simple theme of drawn lines. As a whole, each drawing, print or painting proceeds from one line to the next. Various motifs have evolved over time: flora/nature, memory, journey, maps, among them. Most recently, these allusions, though abstract, have focused on landscape, architecture, and interior space. This current direction, particularly the relationship between art and architecture, underscores a sense of art engaging with the community and the world we live in.
