Barb Stork

I am an artist working primarily with watercolors and acrylics on paper. My work explores themes of landscape and poetry. Over the past few years, I have focused on a particular Ohio wetland known as a fen.
Using transparent watercolor, I create color studies on-site, striving to capture the fen's rich diversity and complexity. There is a sense of the infinite in these wetlands; Mother Nature presents a continual dance of movement, a perfect balance of elements, and intricate patterns in every detail. My studies are humble yet sincere attempts to capture some aspect of this grandeur.
In the studio, I transform these studies into final paintings through an intuitive process. The colors in my studies require "space to breathe" , guiding the work toward a natural simplification of form. My hope is that these paintings will bring joy and lightness to the viewer's world.
I have been creating art since early childhood, inspired by my parents, Doris and Jack, who instilled a love of poetry, art, and nature in all their children. From my father, I inherited a deep sense of spirituality, and from my mother, an intuitive understanding of line and color.
I studied Fine Art at Sinclair Community College, Edgecliff College, and Wright State University, where I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts. Throughout my career, I have worked as an artist and fine arts instructor at various institutions, including The Dayton Art Institute, Troy Hayner Cultural Center, and Rosewood Arts Center. My work has been featured in over 40 juried exhibitions, including
"Emerging Visions" at the Ratner Museum in Bethesda, Maryland, and "The Mystical Work of Barb Stork" at Missing Peace Art Space in Dayton, Ohio.
